OB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE                                 :   PAEDIATRIC NURSE

DEPARTMENT                          :   CLINICAL SERVICES

REPORTS TO                            :   HEAD OF NURSING

JOB SUMMARY      

Provide and maintain high standards of professional holistic nursing care to sick children and their families from birth, infancy to adolescent patients.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Plan, provide, and evaluate nursing care to patients on their individual needs

·         Ensure patients nursing needs such as physical, psychological, and mental are attended to.

·         To provide individually tailored care to patients

·         To assist patients, perform their ordinary daily activities.

·         Monitor record and report changes in patient’s symptoms.

·         Maintain accurate reports on patients.

·         Assess the needs of patients and plan for nursing care.

·         Admit and discharge patients.

·         Participate in ward rounds with medical and nursing personnel.

·         Assist medical staff in examination and treatment of patients

·         Assist in clinical investigations procedures.

·         Maintain safe and clean working environment by adhering to set standards and procedures

·         Give instructions to patients and their families on various topics pertaining to health of the patient.

·         Ensure that patients discharged from the wards take with the prescribed drugs and discharge summary and follow up on any scheduled appointments.

·         Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the department and provide reports as required

KEY QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

·         RN, RM, RCHN, BSc. Nursing or its equivalent

·         Higher Diploma in Paediatric Nursing.

·         Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)

·         One year of experience in paediatric nursing

·         Valid Practicing License

·         Excellent interpersonal, communication & customer care skills.

·         Good observational skills

·         Ability to remain calm in emergency situations
