JOB TITLE                        :   PHARMACY MANAGER

DEPARTMENT                   :   CLINICAL SERVICES

REPORTS TO                     :   CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

 

JOB SUMMARY      

Responsible for planning, budgeting, supervising, and ensuring the implementation of all pharmacy activities and personnel, including managing new programs within the department and for the hospital. Maintains the pharmacy within established hospital and licensing board guidelines and policies. Have oversight of all pharmacy operational procedures, provides efficient service to in and outpatients and other user departments and stakeholders.

 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·       Develop and implement pharmacy department strategy, objectives and standards in line with the overall Hospital Strategic Plan.

·       Preparing/reviewing hospital formulary periodically to reflect changes in treatment in consultation with other stake holders as outlined in our Drugs & Therapeutics policy.

·       Establishing reviewing and implementing policies and procedures of the pharmacy in accordance with the policies of the hospital and the Medical Board.

·       Ensure proper inventory management of drugs and medicine including acquisition, inspection and storage in line with appropriate stock management guidelines.

·       Ensuring that the emergency medicines and the essential drug list are maintained, stocked and make necessary purchases as need be.

·       Ensuring compliance to QA standards by carrying out regular audits of all activities/procedures/equipment

·       Develop and implement protocols and guidelines, in collaboration with pharmacists, for the safe, effective and economic use of drugs and medicines.

·       Provide appropriate drug information whenever required by all health professionals.

·       Determining & coordinating departmental reporting and communication requirements.

·       Coach immediate subordinates providing feedback, constructive critique, or work, facilitates the development of their problem-solving and decision-making skills, and documents their job performance annually.

 

KEY QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

·       Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy

·       A Master’s degree in Clinical Pharmacy or any other relevant field will be preferred.

·       Professional qualifications in relevant field.

·       Valid membership and practicing license with accredited professional body

·       Minimum ten (7) years’ relevant work experience, 3 of which in a supervisory role.

·       Leadership and people management skills

·       Organizational skills

·       Communication skills

·       Inventory management

·       Good communication and interpersonal skills
