JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE : PHARMACEUTICAL TECHNOLOGIST

DEPARTMENT : CLINICAL SERVICES

REPORTS TO : PHARMACY MANAGER

JOB SUMMARY

To provide effective and efficient pharmaceutical services like accurate dispensing of all orders/ prescriptions as well as educating patients about their medications to meet customer needs.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Accurate and timely posting of all pharmacy computer transactions for billing purposes.

· Carry out timely ordering for stock replenishment to the pharmacy store to maintain optimal stock levels

· Compounding, re-packaging and dilutions of drugs according to laid down guidelines.

· Provide drug information to patients, doctors, nurses and other medical staff

· Participates in regular drug expiry monitoring in the pharmacy to identify and document items with expiry of less than six (6) months

· Liaises with user departments to ensure adequate stocking and proper storage of emergency drugs and intravenous infusions and minimize losses due to expiries and damages.

· Participate in quarterly stock take exercise and ensure timely explanation of stock variances.

· Participates in quality management system activities including documentation, analysis and reporting for continued improvement of services

· Training pharmaceutical technologist interns

· Entering prescriptions orders into the computer and making labels appropriately

· Document dispensing errors and take measures to minimize them.

· Document adverse drug reactions

· Receiving drugs and verifying against the stock transfer printout

· Shelving items appropriately

KEY QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

· Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution

· BSc Degree is desirable

· Registered with Accredited Pharmaceutical Association
