JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE                                 :   EMERGENCY CARE NURSE

DEPARTMENT                          :   CLINICAL SERVICES

REPORTS TO                            :   NURSE IN CHARGE

JOB SUMMARY      

Responsible for providing high standards of professional nursing care to patients with life threatening emergency and trauma conditions

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan, provide, and evaluate nursing care to patients on their individual needs
• Being able to attend to the patients effectively by allowing prompt emergency care to patients with life threatening conditions 
• To provide individually tailored care to patients
• To assist patients, perform their ordinary daily activities
• Monitor record and report changes in patient’s symptoms
• Maintain accurate reports on patients
• Assess the needs of patients and plan for nursing care
• Admit and discharge patients
• Participate in ward rounds with medical and nursing personnel
• Assist medical staff in examination and treatment of patients
• Assist in clinical investigations procedures
• Maintain safe and clean working environment by adhering to set standards and procedures
• Give instructions to patients and their families on various topics pertaining to health of the patient
• Ensure that patients discharged from the wards take with the prescribed drugs and discharge summary and follow up on any scheduled appointments
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the department and provide reports as required

KEY QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

·         RN, RM, RCHN, BSc Nursing or its equivalent

·         Higher Diploma in Emergency Nursing

·         Two years of experience in A & E nursing

·         BLS & ACLS qualifications from a relevant body

·         Valid Practicing License

·         Excellent interpersonal, communication & customer care skills

·         Quick thinking and action

·         Ability to remain calm in emergency situations
